Photography and Orality. Dialogues in Bamako, Dakar and Elsewhere
Editorial project realized with Prof. Dr. Bärbel Küster, supervisor of the project “Contemporary photography in Bamako and Dakar”.
The online publication Photography and Orality presents dialogues with seventeen photographers from Mali and Senegal who reflect on their artistic practice, production conditions and the concept of communication through their work.
Comments from curators, fellow-artists, art historians and theorists expand the perspective. Videos and transcripts of the interviews are displayed in parallel with images of the artists’ work.
Visual, oral and written knowledge is thus woven into an ongoing narrating process, a story of telling and re-telling that can be defined as orality.
Photographers who participated in the project and whose works are visible on the “Photography and orality” platform: Alioune Bâ, Mohamed Camara, Ousmane Dago, Emmanuel Bakary Daou, Fatoumata Diabaté, Malika Diagana, Harandane Dicko, Omar Victor Diop, Elise Fitte-Duval, Mamadou Gomis, Angelina Nwachukwu, Fatou Kandé Senghor, Malick Sidibé, Amadou Sow, Djibril Sy, Adama Sylla, Ibrahima Thiam.
Project funded by the programm “TURN” (Kulturstiftung des Bundes), the Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste Stuttgart and the Technische Universität Berlin.
