Berlin, 2011.<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">[TEXTE INT\u00c9GRAL]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Pli<\/em> frappe \u00e0 premi\u00e8re vue par son caract\u00e8re syst\u00e9matique et rigoureusement ordonn\u00e9\u00a0: on assiste \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sentation d\u2019une collection d\u2019images photographiques reproduisant toutes des statues vues uniquement de dos. Un fort sentiment d\u2019unit\u00e9 domine. Si l\u2019on remarque d\u2019embl\u00e9e que l\u2019usage de la couleur offre une grande pr\u00e9cision dans la description des variations de mati\u00e8re et de teinte de chacun de ces monuments d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 des personnages illustres, le cadrage, l\u2019\u00e9chelle, l\u2019\u00e9clairage, l\u2019angle de la prise de vue (\u00e0 peu de changements pr\u00e8s) et la monochromie r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9e du fond blanc d\u00e9finissent quant \u00e0 eux les r\u00e8gles de composition des images et les principes sur lesquels repose ce montage en s\u00e9rie.<\/p>\n<p>Qu\u2019ils soient r\u00e9els ou fictifs, les personnages ainsi pos\u00e9s sur un pi\u00e9destal b\u00e9n\u00e9ficient d\u2019une certaine autorit\u00e9. <em>Pli<\/em> prend cette \u00e9vidence \u00e0 contre-pied et nous montre l\u2019envers de ces repr\u00e9sentations. Photographier cet envers ne consiste cependant pas \u00e0 renverser l\u2019image, puisque l&#8217;on peut tourner \u00e0 360 degr\u00e9s autour d&#8217;un objet tridimensionnel. En s\u2019en tenant aux dos des sculptures, geste irr\u00e9versible cette fois-ci puisque l&#8217;on passe au r\u00e9gime bidimensionnel de l&#8217;image, Tim Lehmacher les installe d\u00e9finitivement dans un anonymat qui bouleverse la hi\u00e9rarchie et l&#8217;ordre de lecture des formes.<\/p>\n<p>Les ingr\u00e9dients p\u00e9riph\u00e9riques de la repr\u00e9sentation deviennent le centre de notre attention. Seuls importent les plis d\u2019un manteau, d\u2019une toge, d\u2019une robe, d\u2019une cape ou d\u2019une \u00e9tole, autant de signes cens\u00e9s indiquer pouvoir, c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9, dignit\u00e9, vertu, grandeur d&#8217;\u00e2me. Les plis sont comme autant d\u2019accessoires venant animer des corps qui, sans cela, seraient nus et d\u00e9pouill\u00e9s, mais la profusion de mouvement nous invite \u00e0 oublier la fonction sociale de l&#8217;habit. Certains dos font preuve d\u2019une abstraction d\u00e9concertante. La r\u00e9p\u00e9tition des plis cr\u00e9e un surplus essentiel, un suppl\u00e9ment d\u00e9cisif qui donne de l\u2019\u00e2me, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire suscite le sentiment d\u2019une unit\u00e9. Faces retourn\u00e9es, les visages restent cach\u00e9s, les identit\u00e9s sont tues. Le caract\u00e8re d&#8217;abord syst\u00e9matique de la s\u00e9rie, qui semble n&#8217;avoir ni d\u00e9but ni fin, ni datation ni localisation, devient peu \u00e0 peu \u00e9nigmatique. <em>Pli<\/em> ne garde de l\u2019enqu\u00eate documentaire que la structure\u00a0: mise \u00e0 disposition d\u2019un mat\u00e9riel empirique multiple qu\u2019il faut organiser ou comment trouver \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019unit\u00e9 dans la vari\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 <em>Einheit in der Mannigfaltigkeit<\/em> pour reprendre cette formule m\u00e9taphysique que l\u2019on trouve chez Leibniz.<\/p>\n<p>On comprend alors tr\u00e8s vite que le syst\u00e9matisme de cette suite photographique n\u2019est en rien vou\u00e9 \u00e0 la classification d\u2019objets historiques. Il ne s&#8217;agit pas non plus d&#8217;un ordonnancement de formes dynamiques, m\u00e9morielles, parfois t\u00e9moins, parfois narratrices d\u2019une histoire dont le souhait premier serait de d\u00e9gager un prototype unique par-del\u00e0 la diversit\u00e9 des costumes que rev\u00eat le temps au gr\u00e9 de ses apparitions sensibles. Si <em>Pli<\/em> attribue \u00e0 ses objets un pareil dynamisme, son souci n\u2019est pas tant de recueillir des r\u00e9sultats concrets permettant d\u2019attribuer un sens fixe et d\u00e9finitif aux formes, m\u00eame les plus d\u00e9termin\u00e9es, que de rester attentif \u00e0 leurs transformations multiples.<\/p>\n<p>La recherche qu\u2019initie <em>Pli<\/em> r\u00e9side davantage du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la perception des formes dans son lien avec la sensation et son infinie diversit\u00e9. Organiser mieux les perceptions \u2013 elles-m\u00eames d\u00e9j\u00e0 tr\u00e8s organis\u00e9es, car regroup\u00e9es dans ce que l\u2019on nomme une \u00ab\u00a0\u0153uvre d\u2019art\u00a0\u00bb dont la fonction sociale est multiple, la signification historique clairement d\u00e9termin\u00e9e \u2013 organiser mieux, donc, les perceptions, non pas pour les optimiser dans le cadre d\u2019un programme de connaissance objective, mais plut\u00f4t pour aiguiser les sentiments. Une invite \u00e0 ressentir les formes et leurs variations, leurs mutations. Une tentative, peut-\u00eatre, pour mesurer l\u2019impact cognitif du rapport sensible, voire sentimental, aux formes artificielles ou naturelles, dans leur mouvement incessant.<\/p>\n<p>Cette attention port\u00e9e \u00e0 la perception prend ainsi une dimension haptique et non plus seulement optique, au sens o\u00f9 elle nous invite \u00e0 nous rapprocher mieux de l\u2019objet, comme pour le toucher, en parcourir les formes, les pleins et les vides, les ruptures et les continuit\u00e9s, les points fixes et les points mouvants. Un autre travail de Tim Lehmacher s&#8217;attaque de front aux rapports qu&#8217;entretiennent perception et sensation dans la photographie: l&#8217;installation <em>Skies<\/em>, une s\u00e9rie qui para\u00eet elle aussi d\u2019abord syst\u00e9matique pour mieux jouer ensuite des ambigu\u00eft\u00e9s. L\u2019installation se compose d\u2019images toutes construites sur le m\u00eame mod\u00e8le, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire \u00e0 partir d\u2019une photographie de ciel superpos\u00e9e sur une surface blanche d&#8217;une taille l\u00e9g\u00e8rement inf\u00e9rieure.<\/p>\n<p>De loin, ces associations sont per\u00e7ues comme des images abstraites, deux figures rectangulaires plac\u00e9es horizontalement qui, ainsi mises en s\u00e9rie, d\u00e9clinent les tonalit\u00e9s d\u2019un gris-bleu confront\u00e9 \u00e0 la clart\u00e9 du blanc. C\u2019est seulement vues de pr\u00e8s que ces assemblages se r\u00e9v\u00e8lent \u00eatre la rencontre d&#8217;un enregistrement photographique avec un rectangle blanc. Ainsi accol\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;image photographique, le monochrome \u2013 qui a la particularit\u00e9 d&#8217;\u00eatre \u00e0 la fois id\u00e9e et sensation \u2013 n&#8217;est pas une tentative pour tirer la photographie du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l&#8217;abstraction, ou inversement, le monochrome du c\u00f4t\u00e9 du r\u00e9el. Il s&#8217;agit plut\u00f4t de cr\u00e9er un va-et-vient entre les deux r\u00e9gimes de l&#8217;image de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 augmenter la pr\u00e9cision de nos perceptions. L&#8217;attention au d\u00e9tail se construit ici au d\u00e9tour d&#8217;une image qui n&#8217;a ni partie ni tout, ni centre ni p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie, mais se pr\u00e9sente comme une et indivisible, sans hi\u00e9rarchie.<\/p>\n<p>Revenons maintenant \u00e0 <em>Pli<\/em>. Apr\u00e8s cette premi\u00e8re impression d\u2019unit\u00e9, c\u2019est donc bien l\u2019abondance, l\u2019immense richesse des expressions, l\u2019infini possible des mati\u00e8res et des formes qui nous gagne. La structure abstraite qui organise l\u2019ensemble de ce dispositif qu\u2019est <em>Pli<\/em>, est un moyen non pas de nous \u00e9loigner du sensible, mais plut\u00f4t de nous en rapprocher par l\u2019exacerbation des d\u00e9tails qu\u2019il occasionne. L\u2019abstraction dynamise ici l\u2019exp\u00e9rience. Tim Lehmacher ne s\u2019engage pas dans une d\u00e9marche taxinomique aux vell\u00e9it\u00e9s documentaires dont la vis\u00e9e principale serait, contre tout esth\u00e9tisme ou formalisme, d\u2019augmenter notre connaissance du monde via la photographie.<\/p>\n<p>Si la mise en s\u00e9rie exacerbe notre penchant pour la comparaison et nous permet de percevoir plus finement les ressemblances et les diff\u00e9rences, la plupart des indices issus directement du r\u00e9el ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soigneusement gomm\u00e9s. Notre \u0153il parcourt l\u2019ensemble de ces images, il passe de l\u2019une \u00e0 l\u2019autre, dans un sens puis dans un autre, et oublie instantan\u00e9ment de se demander\u00a0: Qui\u00a0? Quand\u00a0? O\u00f9\u00a0?\u00a0Nous voil\u00e0 pris par un \u00e9lan qui, s\u2019il est lib\u00e9r\u00e9 de toute indication de gens, de lieux et d\u2019instants, nous plonge dans une attention toute particuli\u00e8re aux formes que prend la pierre ou le bronze lorsque ces mati\u00e8res veulent sugg\u00e9rer l\u2019expression du mouvement dans un v\u00eatement.<\/p>\n<p>Notre sensibilit\u00e9 se porte non seulement sur les variations des \u00e9toffes qui tombent puis remontent, se plissent ou se tendent, mais aussi sur les corps, les postures, les gestes. On remarque une position de la main, une t\u00eate pench\u00e9e, l\u2019expressivit\u00e9 d&#8217;un dos, un d\u00e9hanchement surprenant. Passant d\u2019une image \u00e0 l\u2019autre, on ne sait plus tr\u00e8s bien si ces tissus qui se ne cessent de se mouvoir sont bien si diff\u00e9rents les uns des autres ou bien s\u2019il s\u2019agit plut\u00f4t d\u2019une seule et m\u00eame grande \u00e9toffe circulant d\u2019une image \u00e0 l\u2019autre, d\u2019un corps \u00e0 l\u2019autre, d\u2019une statue \u00e0 l\u2019autre. C\u2019est la m\u00eame m\u00e9thode qui est ici employ\u00e9e\u00a0: \u00e9l\u00e9ments photographiques isol\u00e9s, d\u00e9coup\u00e9s, assembl\u00e9s, mont\u00e9s, remont\u00e9s\u00a0; ici aussi le blanc, mani\u00e8re de d\u00e9finir un espace pictural radical et non-r\u00e9el\u00a0; ici aussi un arbitraire du cadre qui n\u2019a ni d\u00e9but ni fin et vient contrarier l\u2019id\u00e9e premi\u00e8re d\u2019un espace monochrome parfaitement clos. Aucunes indications contextuelles, on peine m\u00eame \u00e0 identifier les formes qui d\u2019embl\u00e9e se pr\u00e9sentent \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il plut\u00f4t comme les traces d\u2019un geste pictural. On remarque que ces traces sont plut\u00f4t bavardes, parce que porteuses d\u2019indices mat\u00e9riels d\u2019une grande richesse.<\/p>\n<p>On assiste, encore une fois, \u00e0 la mise en place d\u2019un dispositif qui tend \u00e0 l\u2019abstraction et qui finalement concr\u00e9tise \u00e0 l\u2019extr\u00eame la perception des d\u00e9tails et place le regardeur dans une hypersensibilit\u00e9. Les \u00e9tendues picturales de <em>Blush<\/em> prennent des allures de Twombly\u00a0; les feux d\u2019artifices, produits d\u2019une explosion inhumaine, deviennent les traces de gestes humains, trop humains, donc impossibles \u00e0 fixer dans une forme achev\u00e9e. Les photographies de Tim Lehmacher semblent vouloir relever le d\u00e9fi d\u2019un m\u00e9dium qui est n\u00e9 de cette contradiction\u00a0: \u00e0 savoir, celle d\u2019\u00eatre fid\u00e8le \u00e0 ce qui est immobile et sourd \u00e0 ce qui bouge.
