Pr\u00e9curseur d\u2019une vision p\u00e9dagogique de l\u2019art, il ancre le d\u00e9bat esth\u00e9tique dans une dimension qui d\u00e9passe le strict champ artistique pour aller vers la psychologie et l\u2019anthropologie. Car d\u00e9finir l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art appartient selon lui au plus vaste programme de d\u00e9finition des unit\u00e9s premi\u00e8res que sont le moi et le monde.<\/p>\n<p>Moritz \u00e9tait connu de son vivant comme psychologue et \u00e9crivain. Dans une volont\u00e9 de mieux comprendre le sujet et ses souffrances, il cr\u00e9e une revue de psychologie exp\u00e9rimentale o\u00f9 des \u00e9crits de sp\u00e9cialistes \u2013 m\u00e9decins ou philosophes \u2013 c\u00f4toient des rapports de police, des autobiographies r\u00e9elles ou imaginaires, des r\u00e9cits de r\u00eaves ou de la litt\u00e9rature mystique. Ses \u00e9crits sur l\u2019art, dont le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre fut r\u00e9dig\u00e9 \u00e0 Rome en 1786 au c\u00f4t\u00e9 de Goethe qui reprendra \u00e0 son compte plusieurs de ses id\u00e9es, sont indissociables de ses pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents travaux. Devenu professeur \u00e0 l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des beaux-arts de Berlin, l\u2019\u00e9clectique Moritz marque toute une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019artistes et de th\u00e9oriciens comme Jean Paul, Friedrich Schlegel ou Schiller.<\/p>\n<p>Au sein d\u2019une m\u00e9taphysique du beau, les concepts de signature et d\u2019achev\u00e9 en soi viennent redessiner chez Moritz l\u2019antinomie du sensible et de l\u2019id\u00e9al dans notre rapport aux choses de l\u2019art. N\u00e9cessairement achev\u00e9e et autonome au plan de l\u2019id\u00e9e, toute \u0153uvre d\u2019art appara\u00eet au plan empirique sous la forme d\u2019un fragment, car assimil\u00e9e \u00e0 la trace d\u2019un mouvement cr\u00e9ateur qui ne saurait \u00eatre plein que dans l\u2019acte pr\u00e9sent.
